Tesla collides with 7-seater vehicle in Tai Po resulting in 1 death and 5 injuries (Updated: 8pm)


9th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) Two private cars collided at around 1.13pm on Sam Mun Tsai Road near Ting Kok Road in Tai Po.

The driver of the 7-seater vehicle and four passengers were injured, with one 79-year-old woman surname Chu falling into a coma. The female driver surnamed Liu of the Tesla electric car also sustained injuries. All six individuals were transported by ambulance to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po for medical treatment. Chu was subsequently certified dead.

Reportedly, the 7-seater vehicle was occupied by a couple, two young individuals, and one male passenger, while the electric car had only a female driver. The incident occurred when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions. Upon reaching the location mentioned, one of the cars crossed the centerline while attempting to overtake a taxi that was dropping off passengers, resulting in a head-on collision with the other car. The accident caused traffic disruptions at the scene. According to reports, the police have arrested the male driver named Yeung (52 years old) of the 7-seater vehicle and detained him on suspicion of “causing death by dangerous driving.” The deceased was the mother-in-law of Yeung.
