5th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) A collision between two private cars on the westbound Island Eastern Corridor near North Point Ferry Pier at 10.37am left one driver unconscious and prompted an emergency response. The unconscious motorist was taken by ambulance to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment. According to information from the scene, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that a driver fainted before the crash occurred.
The Transport Department said part of the westbound carriageway towards Central remained closed following the accident, with motorists restricted to the remaining open lanes and heavy traffic reported in the area. Police officers continued on‑site inquiries into the cause of the crash as recovery and clear‑up operations proceeded.
Images circulating online showed a black car with airbags deployed and a white car with significant damage to its right side. Officers at the scene were seen assisting the injured, with reports indicating that first aid, including resuscitation efforts, was administered before the casualty was transported to hospital. Ruttonjee Hospital is a public acute facility serving Hong Kong Island East.
