Two arrested for orchestrating an attempted robbery of a Patek Philippe watch and HK$56,700 cash belonging to two men in Mong Kok

12th July 2019 – (Hong Kong) At around 3pm yesterday, several burglars attempted to make off with a Patek Philippe watch and cash belonging to a Thai man and his local friend on Kwong Wa Street in Mong Kok on 10th July.

After conducting detailed investigations, police arrested a 19 year old Thai man with local identity card at Aberdeen on the same day and they subsequently arrested another 28 year old local man in Wong Tai Sin area yesterday. Both are currently being detained to facilitate investigations.

On 10th July, a 48 year old local man Pang was carrying a backpack containing US$7,000 (approximately HK$55,700) and HK$1,000 cash with documents while the Thai guy had a Patek Philippe watch worth HK$700,000 in his backpack and he was also carrying a hand luggage.

They were on the way to several local second-hand watch shops in the area to evaluate and trade-in the watch. Out of sudden, 4 masked South Asians ambushed them from behind. One of them was armed with knife and the assailants managed to flee with Pang’s backpack containing cash while the Thai guy resisted and got back his backpack containing the watch. However, he was struck by an object by the assailants before collapsing outside an electrical store near a bank. Passerby called the police while the assailants ran towards Dundas Street in Mong Kok.
