1st March 2024 – (Hong Kong) At 7.41am today, an incident on Tuen Mun Road severely disrupted commuters heading towards Kowloon. A crane truck, experiencing what appeared to be a mechanical failure, began emitting smoke near Rhine Garden in Sham Tseng. The vehicle came to a halt in the second lane from the left, and the driver quickly disembarked to call for assistance.

The breakdown led to significant congestion on Tuen Mun Road as it approaches Kowloon, with traffic piling up due to the obstruction. The Transport Department has since announced the closure of several lanes near the Sham Tseng interchange, leaving only the remaining lanes open for drivers. Motorists currently face heavy traffic and are advised to exercise caution.

Furthermore, the department has issued a notice to the public, alerting them that bus services, including Kowloon Motor Bus routes, may experience delays due to the incident. Commuters travelling via Tuen Mun Road to Tsuen Wan and Kowloon are encouraged to consider alternative public transport options, such as the MTR service, to avoid the congestion.
