Traffic accident on Tai Po Road leaves motorcyclist and taxi driver injured


12th February 2024 – (Hong Kong) Aa collision occurred between a motorcycle and a taxi on Tai Po Road (Sha Tin) near the Kowloon Reservoir BBQ Area in Cheung Sha Wan. The accident took place at approximately 3pm today, resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist and the taxi driver. Witnesses at the scene promptly reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the dispatch of medical personnel and law enforcement officers.

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics provided immediate medical attention to the injured motorcyclist, who was found lying on the ground after being thrown off the bike. The motorcyclist, identified as a seasoned rider, sustained injuries and was subsequently transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for further treatment. Notably, the motorcyclist remained conscious throughout the ordeal. The taxi driver also reported feeling unwell and was taken to a hospital for examination.

The aftermath of the collision revealed significant damage to the front of both vehicles. The motorcycle’s front end was severely mangled, while the motorcyclist, during the course of receiving medical care, removed their protective gear, including the leather jacket, boots, and helmet. Similarly, the taxi suffered extensive damage, with its front crumpled and its components exposed. The impact caused the handlebars to fall onto the road. Additionally, due to an oil leak from the motorcycle involved in the incident, a large oil stain was left on the road surface. Law enforcement officers are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

According to preliminary information, the motorcyclist, suspected to be riding together with other friends, was enjoying a leisurely ride along Tai Po Road towards Kowloon. As they approached a slight left bend near the aforementioned location, it is believed that the motorcyclist lost control, crossing the lane and colliding head-on with the oncoming taxi. The force of the collision catapulted the motorcyclist off their bike, resulting in a slide of approximately 10 meters before coming to a stop on the pedestrian path. Despite sustaining injuries to multiple parts of their body, the motorcyclist managed to remain conscious.
