Total number of COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong increases to 56

There were a total of 6 confirmed cases from those who attended the dinner at Star Seafood Restaurant in North Point.

14th February 2020 – (Hong Kong) As of yesterday, total coronavirus cases in Hong Kong has reached 53. In the latest media briefing this afternoon, Dr CHUANG Shuk-kwan from Centre of Health Protection expressed that there were three more cases today. The 54th case is the cousin sister of the 53th patient who lives at Big Wave Bay village in Shek O. She works as a clerk at Quarry Bay.

She started to cough on 3rd January and was admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital on 13th January. The 54th patient had dinner with 46th, 48th, 49th, 52nd and 53rd patients on 26th January at Star Seafood Restaurant on King’s Road North Point on 26th January. There were a total of 6 confirmed cases from those who attended the dinner.

The 55th case is a 70-year-old man who lives at Shek Lei Estate, Kwai Chung. He went to mainland China via Lok Ma Chau on 22nd January and returned on the same day. The 56th case is a 61-year-old woman who lives on Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan. She works at a dim sum restaurant in Sheung Wan. She developed fever and breathing difficulties on 12th February before seeking medical help at Queen Mary Hospital. Her husband went to Xinhui District in Guangdong between 23rd-25th January to visit their son but both of them have not developed any symptoms yet.

As at noon today, public hospitals had reported to the Department of Health the admission of 36 patients (20 male and 16 female, aged 12 months to 93 years) in the past 24 hours who met the reporting criteria of severe respiratory disease associated with a novel infectious agent. Specimens of the patients concerned have been sent for testing. There are 114 patients under isolation currently .Out of the total of 56 COVID-19 cases, 1 has been discharged while 1 has passed away. 54 of them are currently in 9 hospitals, 5 of them are in critical condition and 4 of them are in serious condition. The 55th patient is also in critical condition and he is currently on life support system at the Intensive Care Unit.
