Total daily COVID-19 cases fall below 2,000 mark to 1,828, 3 more cases linked to Hotpot Foodie restaurant in Kwun Tong


3rd July 2022 – (Hong Kong)  Dr Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 147 imported cases and 1681 local COVID-19 cases today of which 437 cases were detected during nucleic acid testing while 1,244 cases were recorded via rapid antigen tests and subsequently verified.

Total daily cases recorded today reached 1,828.

Among the 147 imported cases, 80 cases were found at Temporary sampling centre at the airport while 58 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels. 9 cases were identified after the completion of 7-day quarantine at designated hotels.

1 employee and 4 residents were detected in 2 residential care homes for elderly and 2 residential care homes for the handicapped.

No new cases were detected in schools today.

Another 23 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded. 20 of the cases were of unknown origin. 2 cases were epidemiologically linked to the 20 cases of unknown origin.

3 new cases involving customers were linked to cluster outbreak at Hotpot Foodie, Shop C, G/F, Montery Plaza, 15 Chong Yip Street, Kwun Tong. In total, 14 customers were detected and they sat at 8 tables. All environmental samples at the restaurant tested negative. Some of the cases tested positive for Omicron sub-variant BA.4 or BA.5.

In addition, 28 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.4 or BA.5 were detected. 3 of them were related to imported cases (patient zero is a 15-year-old girl who arrived from Canada) while 25 were local cases of unknown sources or close contacts linked to them. 3 of them was epidemiologically linked to one of the 6 cases of unknown sources.

A total of 9,192 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and no new deaths were reported by Health Authority yesterday.

Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that more than 761 patients were still being hospitalised.

A total of 44 patients have recovered and 39 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 2 new cases were detected during admission screening. 3 patients in the same ward have been listed as close contacts.

Meanwhile, 24,436 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 24,102 of them have returned to work after recovering.

Meanwhile, a patient care assistant at Castle Peak Hospital tested positive for COVID-19. So far, a total of 3 patient care assistants and 1 patient have tested positive.
