24th January 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Chinese New Year Raceday 2023 kicked off at the Sha Tin Racecourse today. This year is the first Chinese New Year Raceday since 2020 where the public was admitted. No Vaccine Pass was needed.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) distributed a “lucky pen” and a lucky draw card to every visitor who entered the venue. There were also large money trees and peach blossom plants for citizens to take photos. Local singer Joey Yung also performed at the venue. HKJC stated that the total betting amount today reached HK$2.06 billion, a new high since reunification in 1997, and a new high since the the first annual Chinese New Year Raceday was organised. Both the Sha Tin and Happy Valley racecourses recorded a total of 84,394 attendances, a three-year new high.
