Top model in Myanmar arrested for instigation to harm peace and stability


8th April 2021 – (Yangon) 24-year-old Paing Takhon, an internationally renowned actor and model, has been arrested this morning. He was charged with Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code of Myanmar. Other celebrities who have been arrested so far are Facebook celebrity Win Min Than, comedian and director Zarganar, actor Ye Tike and actor Lu Min.

Lists of celebrities, journalists, activists and bloggers charged under Section 505 (a) of the penal code for their instigation to harm State peace and stability by encouraging the civil disobedience movement (CDM) and using social media are being announced on State TV these days. 

Sources confirmed that Paing Takhon, a male model, was taken away by the military from his mother’s home in the North Dagon district of Yangon at around 5am this morning (8th). Phatakon’s sister Thi Thi Lwin stated that at about 4.30am this morning, the army dispatched 8 military vehicles and about 50 soldiers to arrest Takhon. It is currently unknown where he was taken.

Thi Thi Lwin said that Takhon has been recuperating at his mother’s house in Yangon for several days due to diarrhoea and heart problems. According to his latest posts on social media, his health has been very poor and he has been suffering from depression. “I have been in poor health for several days. Every day I pray to the Buddha to bless my health and wish Myanmar to achieve peace as soon as possible.”

In January 2021 Paing Takhon, a Burmese male model who has acted for various movies and a documentary drama series in Myanmar became an internet sensation after he decided to join a monastery for 10 days. Paing who is an ex-runway model was listed as one of the Top 10 Actors of 2019 by the Myanmar Times.
