24th February 2024 – (Hong Kong) Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, continued his third-day itinerary during his visit to Hong Kong. In the morning, Xia Baolong visited Tao Heung Tea House, located at R-3, No. 8, Unit R-3, Podium Level 1, Nan Fung Plaza, 8 Pui Shing Road, Hang Hau, to have dim sum. The tea house usually opens at 7am, but when reporters arrived at 7.30am, it was still closed. Police officers and their canine companions were deployed inside the restaurant, and a staff member mentioned that it would only open for service to public at 11am.

At 8.22am, several tour buses arrived and entered the shopping mall. Xia Baolong waved to the media and onlookers from his car. He was accompanied by Chief Executive John Lee, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak, and Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Clarence Leung. The group proceeded to the restaurant to have a meal.

Xia Baolong, met yesterday (23rd) with more than 20 representatives from the Hong Kong business community at the Government Headquarters, discussing matters for nearly four hours. Xia Baolong reiterated during the meeting that to achieve Hong Kong’s transformation from governance to prosperity, it is essential for all sectors of society to unite and seek development. He commended the entrepreneurial spirit of Hong Kong’s businessmen who are eager to strive for progress with Hong Kong, expressing his hope that everyone will strengthen their confidence in development and actively support the Chief Executive and the SAR government in governing according to the law, taking concrete actions to make new and greater contributions to the development of Hong Kong and the nation’s construction.

It is known that Xia Baolong primarily listened and did not respond to each remark individually, but some participants mentioned the lack of confidence in the local real estate market and the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law. In response, Xia clarified that the meeting was not to discuss the relevant legislation, reaffirming that Hong Kong must maintain its international status and that the central government fully supports Hong Kong.

Yesterday, Xia Baolong exchanged views with representatives of the local business community, including real estate developers, catering industry, etc., and dined together.

Late at night, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office issued a statement quoting Xia Baolong, stating that achieving Hong Kong’s prosperity requires the united development efforts of all social sectors.

They have played a significant role in maintaining Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability and in the nation’s reform and opening up process. The central government has long adhered to the “one country, two systems” policy, attaching great importance to leveraging Hong Kong’s unique status and advantages, and will continue to fully support Hong Kong’s development.
