24th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) According to Hong Kong Observatory at 9.30am, the Pearl River Estuary is experiencing an increasing coverage of thundery showers, which are anticipated to reach Hong Kong in the next few hours. The public is advised to remain vigilant and prepared for inclement weather conditions.

The current weather situation is attributed to a trough of low pressure that is causing showers to develop over the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong. Additionally, an area of low pressure located in the western North Pacific, east of the Philippines, is gradually intensifying, potentially leading to the formation of a tropical cyclone.

Today’s weather forecast indicates mainly cloudy conditions with intermittent showers and thunderstorms. As the day progresses, the showers are expected to become heavier. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds will prevail.

Looking ahead, showers are still anticipated for tomorrow, while Sunday may offer some sunny intervals. However, the weather is expected to remain unsettled in the following days.

Under the influence of the trough of low pressure and upper-air disturbances, the coast of Guangdong will experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Over the weekend, the upper-air disturbances are predicted to gradually move away from the coastal areas, leading to a slight weakening of the trough of low pressure. As a result, the coastal regions of southern China may experience brighter conditions, although a few showers may still linger. However, another trough of low pressure is projected to bring unsettled weather back to the coast of Guangdong on Monday and Tuesday.

Simultaneously, the area of low pressure in the western North Pacific, east of the Philippines, is anticipated to develop further over the next couple of days. Its trajectory is expected to head towards the seas east of Luzon.
