Thunderstorms and showers expected in HK today


29th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) According to Hong Kong Observatory, the band of intense thundery showers over the northern part of the South China Sea is gradually approaching the vicinity of Pearl River Estuary. It may affect Hong Kong in the next couple of hours.M The weather is mainly cloudy with showers and a few squally thunderstorms. The maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees.

Thunderstorm Warning issued at 6.30am has been extended until 10.30am today. A few squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong. Intense gusts reaching 80 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.

At 8am today, Tropical Storm Roke was centred about 430 kilometres east-southeast of Okinawa. It is forecast to move northeast at about 16 kilometres per hour across the seas south of Japan. Besides, Tropical Depression Noru has weakened into an area of low pressure over the Indochina Peninsula.

The northeast monsoon will continue to affect the coast of Guangdong in the next few days. Meanwhile, a broad trough of low pressure will bring showers to the central and northern parts of the South China Sea. An anticyclone aloft is expected to strengthen gradually early to midweek next week. It will become generally fine and hot gradually over southern China. Besides, Tropical Cyclone Roke will move across the seas south of Japan in the next few days.
