12th February 2024 – (Taipei) According to local media outlet, United Daily News, a fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building in the Dayuan district of Taoyuan on the afternoon of the 10th. Sadly, three foreign workers lost their lives in the blaze. The fire is believed to have been caused by an explosion during dinner preparation by an Indonesian immigrant residing on the second floor. The woman managed to escape, but firefighters discovered the charred remains of a female and an unconscious man and woman in separate rooms near the third-floor staircase. The identities of the three foreign workers are currently under investigation.

In another incident in Hsinchu County, two fatal fires occurred on New Year’s Day. One of the incidents took place in a brick house in the Qingpu Village of Xinfeng Township, where an elderly couple tragically perished without being able to escape.

The 72-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife had celebrated the Lunar New Year’s Eve dinner with their four children in their old house. Due to the limited space, the children had slept in a neighboring vacant house or in their cars for the night. In the early morning of the 10th, when the fire engulfed their ancestral home, their second son, who had slept in the car, noticed the flames and immediately called for help. The elderly couple was found lifeless in the kitchen of their house.

In another tragic incident in Nanshin Village, Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, a three-story building suddenly caught fire early in the morning, claiming the life of a 36-year-old man.

According to reports, the man’s parents had gone outside to pray on New Year’s Day, unaware of the fire that broke out inside their home. They tried to call their son to evacuate, but he did not respond. Unfortunately, he was later found trapped under debris, unable to escape the flames.
