Three more detained in relation to JPEX scam as arrest tally hits 70, complaints climb to 2636 involving HK$16.1 billion


8th February 2024 – (Hong Kong) As of 4pm today, officials have confirmed that the number of reported victims involved in JPEX cryptocurrency scam has reached 2,636, marking an increase of seven since the last update on December 6. The total amount involved in the alleged fraudulent activities is now estimated at around HK$16.1 billion.

The authorities have also increased their enforcement actions with three new arrests, bringing the total number of individuals detained in connection with the investigation to 70. Each of the accused has been granted bail and is expected to report back to the police between late February and late March for further inquiries.

The police have made it clear that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with the possibility of additional arrests not being ruled out. The Criminal Division’s staff is said to be proactively following up on the investigation and continuing to make contact with those involved to assist in the inquiries.
