29th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Three patients, aged 72 to 94, with chronic diseases in a male medical and geriatric ward in Lai King Building, Princess Margaret Hospital, have tested positive for Influenza A. They had presented with respiratory symptoms since March 26.

Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and their results came back positive for Influenza A. Two of the patients are currently under isolation, with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition. Unfortunately, the third patient has passed away due to underlying medical conditions.

In response to the situation, infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance to prevent further spread of the virus.

The Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection have been informed of the cases and will provide necessary follow-up. We urge the public to take necessary precautions and seek medical attention if they experience any respiratory symptoms.
