18th September 2023 – (Los Angeles) Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s horror thriller, “The Nun II,” emerged as the weekend’s No. 1 film at the North American box office, narrowly surpassing newcomer “A Haunting In Venice,” according to figures released by measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.

Directed by Michael Chaves and featuring Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons, “The Nun II” secured an estimated three-day cumulative total of 14.7 million U.S. dollars. The film has amassed a total of 56.5 million dollars in North America over the course of ten days, contributing to its global earnings of 158.8 million dollars.

As a sequel to 2018’s “The Nun,” which holds the record as the highest-grossing instalment in “The Conjuring” Universe, this latest entry adds to the success of the supernatural horror film series. “The Conjuring” Universe, known for its spine-chilling narratives, stands as the most lucrative horror franchise in history, with a staggering worldwide box office revenue exceeding 2 billion dollars.

“A Haunting In Venice” closely trailed in second place, debuting with a solid 14.5-million-dollar opening weekend. The film, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, is based on Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe’en Party” and serves as a sequel to last year’s “Death on the Nile.”

Completing the Top 3 rankings, Sony Pictures’ action film “The Equalizer 3” earned 7.2 million dollars during its third weekend, amassing a cumulative total of 73.7 million dollars in North America.
