12th August 2019 – (Hong Kong) A new gofundme campaign created yesterday has raised over US$1.97m in 2 hours this morning. The campaign is purportedly started by a group of volunteers called FREEDOM HONG KONG, This group launched a crowdfunded project on 25 June 2019 to publish full page advertorials in major newspapers worldwide containing open letter on Hong Kong’s struggle against the Extradition Bill during the G20 Osaka Summit 2019. They managed to raise over HK$6.7 million (US$857,000) in nine hours, exceeding the fundraising goal by 1.2 times.

As at 1pm today, the campaign has raised US$1,973,621.

The same group started a new campaign yesterday targeting US$1 million (HK$7.8 million) to organise major street rallies all over the world on 17th August to expose the violence and alleged crimes committed by police on 11th August.

The group also supported a gathering organised by university students at Chater Garden on 16th August. 11 local university student unions have joined forces to organise a gathering at Chater Garden on 16th August with the slogan ‘Alliance of United States, United Kingdom and Hong Kong, sovereignty lies with the people‘. Apart from making their five anti-extradition demands, the students will also call upon United States and United Kingdom to propose bills to impose sanctions on government officials who allegedly damaged the autonomy of Hong Kong.

By starting these online campaigns and gathering, protesters are openly calling for foreign powers to interfere in the internal affairs of the city. The student protesters alleged that the police have resorted to extreme violence by firing tear gas rounds in Kwai Fong and Tai Koo MTR Stations, shooting protesters at close distance at Tai Koo MTR Station and rupturing the eye of a female protester in TST on 11th August. According to them, police’s actions are akin to ‘military execution’.

According to FREEDOM HONG KONG, this crowdfunding round is different from the previous one raised during the G20 summit, their purpose then was to highlight to G20 Summit members on the anti-extradition issues and impact on international community. However, the current crowdfunding exercise is to expose to the world how the Hong Kong government continues to suppress political dissidents by using ‘Chemical Weapon’ to attack the civilians and shooting them at close distance.

There are two waves planned by FREEDOM HONG KONG in the current agenda:

Wave 1 : 17th and 18th August – To place advertorials in major dailies all around the world to expose ‘war crimes’ committed by Hong Kong government and police.

Wave 2: Multiple campaigns and activities will be planned to coincide with parliamentary meetings of various countries in September 2019 so that bills to sanction Hong Kong will be proposed.

GOFUNDME.com is an American crowdfunding setup

GO FUND ME , GoFundMe is an American for profit crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for events ranging from life events such as celebrations and graduations to challenging circumstances like accidents and illnesses. In addition, the crowdfunding platform has also been used by politicians to raise money for election campaign. In 2008, a gofundme campaign called “We The People Will Fund The Wall” was launched by a disabled Florida veteran and it had raised more than $13 million from more than 213,000 people to build President Trump’s long-promised border wall between Mexico and US.

Petitions to White House by student protesters in Hong Kong

Apart from the gofundme campaign initiated by FREEDOM HONG KONG, several petitions have also been filed by netizens to the White House in the United States i.e. Petition to officially recognize Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) led by Commissioner Stephen LO Wai-chung as a Terrorist Organization, petition to ask the US Federal Government to call on congress to act on Chinese police impersonating Hong Kong police officers in anti-extradition bill protest and petition to call upon US Federal Government to send Medical Army to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is under a Humanitarian Disaster.

It is highly likely that these petitions were submitted by local students as they were written in poor English.

Excerpts from the petition:

Infamous HKPF backed by China’s Liaison Office and Hong Kong Macau Affairs Office is transformed to an organization similar to Nazi Schutzstaffel (SS) of 1930s.

Continuously uses of violence, threats, coerce and sexual assaults danger people’s lives and human rights, suppress freedom of speech, refuse any protests against political issues, and jeopardize “One Country Two Systems”.

HKPF tolerated terrorist attacks performed by triad gangsters in Yuen Long on July 21st, 2019. In addition to her past and ongoing abuse of power and violence, other equally heinous crimes are committed in streets of Hong Kong starting on June 12th. HKPF attacked peaceful protesters, journalists and civilians indiscriminately causing head injuries, and arrested and accused of rioting for up to 10-year sentence.

Excerpts from the petition:

Hong Kong anti-extradition bill protest was violently disturbed, suppressed and smeared by the Chinese and Hong Kong Government.

There was evidence that Chinese Government sent mainland police officers to Hong Kong to impersonate Hong Kong police officers. Evidence such as incomplete uniform, different crowd management approach, language(Mandarin was heard but the mother tongue of Hong Kong people is Cantonese).

Chinese Government is evidently breaking the Sino-Joint Declaration of promising “One Country Two Systems”.Such barbarous act will not be accepted nor endorsed in any international standards.

Hong Kong people fights for democracy and freedom. We are here to plead White House to pass the Hong Kong Human rights and Democracy Act.

Excerpts from the petition:

The Beijing -controlled HKSAR government’s been attacking or trying to kill ALL Hong Kong civilians(protestors, journalists or residents including children) by firing thousands of expired lethal tear gas cannons in highly densely populated commercial and residential areas continuously and frequently for months. Local health professionals providing humanitarian aids to victims also got injured or arrested. The situation’s become critical in that the overused tear gas is now causing severe health problems to the majority of civilians. Most victims can’t go to local hospitals for medical treatment as the hospital authority will release their personal info to Beijing-Controlled Police Dept., putting victims’ safety at risk. Thus, we urgently need medical army to offer medical aids to victims.

American flags flown during Hong Kong Protests

Hong Kong protesters have been increasingly blatant and open recently in their indirect support for American intervention in the city’s state of affairs by waving the American flags during several street rallies, airport protest. A group of them were even spotted singing the National Anthem of the United States. (Click here for our earlier report)

On the surface, protesters may defend their actions by arguing that they carry the flags to support Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act in the US Congress. However, these student protesters may be without their knowledge used as tools by the powerful nation to achieve their own agendas.

Jimmy Lai and the U.S. connection

The West, and in particular the United States have a long history of rigging polls, supporting military coups, channeling funds and spreading political propaganda in other countries especially via its primary funding vehicle overseas,  National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Meanwhile, China and United States have been engaged in a heated trade war through increasing tariffs and other measures since 2018. Both superpowers have been competing for global economic and technological dominance. United States will have the upper hand if the stability of Hong Kong, the economic powerhouse of China is crippled.

Since the people of Hong Kong were already infuriated with the government over the amended extradition bill and police brutality, it would be cheaper and easier just to incite and fund a small group of front line young student protesters who have no stake in the economy. They could easily lead the street rallies into mass destructions in the city as the anti-establishment sentiment is at all time high.

As the anti-extradition fever continues to spread all over Hong Kong, a pro-Beijing Chinese media has published an opinion piece criticising several local media (in particular Apple Daily) & international newspapers in United States and Europe for publicising news targeting police and promoting anti-establishment ideology. They have incited the younger people to engage in violent acts during the anti-extradition protests. Apple Daily was described as the ‘poisonous apple’ used to infuriate the young people. He was alleged to be the mastermind, main perpetrator and key organiser of the violent acts.

U.S. Vice President, Mike Pence and Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Hong Kong businessman and publisher who owns Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai on 8th July in Washington, D.C in the wake of multiple protests by Hong Kongers against the proposed amended extradition bill. (Read the original press release from the U.S. Department of State here.) Jimmy Lai’s long-term aide, Mark Simon who used to work for US NAVY expressed after the meeting that both parties had a constructive talk on the current situation between China and Hong Kong and also with Taiwan. Why would United States government meet up with a civilian instead of a government official?

There were many allegations that Jimmy Lai was funded by National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in United States to mastermind the current civil unrest in Hong Kong. It is a known fact that Jimmy Lai has always maintained close ties with right-wing politicians in the United States as many have speculated that Mike Simon, Jimmy’s Aide, built the relationships for them.

On 13 December 2014, Lai was arrested, along with other pro-democratic leaders, during the clearance of the Admiralty protest site of the Umbrella movementHis house was raided by ICAC after he allegedly donated to pan-democrats in 2014. A copy of search warrants showed that the ICAC was looking for connections between payments or donations and the Legco debate.

Meanwhile, as recent as 3rd August,  Jimmy and his assistant, Mark Simon met up with a mysterious foreign man and 7 others i.e.Martin Lee, Chairman of Democratic Party, Anson Maria Elizabeth Chan Fang On-sang who served as ex-Chief Secretary, Cardinal Joseph Zen, legislative councillors including Alan Leong, Jeremy Jansen Tam,  Lee Wing-tat and Albert Ho for dinner. Cardinal Joseph Zen, a close comrade of Jimmy is one of the trustees of the recently set up  612 Humanitarian Relief Fund which provides FREE legal service and medical expenses for protesters who were arrested and charged during anti-extradition protest and to cover their medical fees. The Fund provided legal support for the 45 protesters who were arrested during the Sheung Wan clash on 28th July. Trustees of 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund  announced that their funds were donated by ‘concerned citizens’.

Mounting legal fees can reach tens of millions as more illegal street rallies take place. Hundreds of protesters have been arrested and legal suits will definitely costs an arm and a leg. We do not think that any ‘concerned citizen’ will be generous enough to donate large amounts of money to support a bunch of young protesters as it is most likely that these concerned citizens (if they are legit) are mostly business owners and tycoons who have a stake in the city. It would be nonsensical for them to fund radical protesters to destroy the economy of Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, a whopping US$1.97 million was raised in a new gofundme campaign created yesterday in under 2 hours. In the current deteriorating state of economy in Hong Kong, we are surprised that there are still so many ‘concerned citizens’ who would still chip in to support a holy cause by FREEDOM HONG KONG to impose sanctions in the city. On the other hand, it is very easy to channel money from overseas especially from United States via this US-based crowdfunding platform as no one can trace the source of fund.

The campaign is purportedly started by a group of volunteers called FREEDOM HONG KONG whose website domain is based in Arizona. Their ulterior objective is to leverage on foreign nations to pass sanctions against Hong Kong. If Hong Kong’s economy were to go into a downward spiral because of sanctions passed, how would these students benefit in their own future even if their five demands were answered? Their actions are akin to the kamikaze pilots during the Japanese war i.e. ‘if you don’t give me what I want, we die together’.

By signing a petition to the White House to call for interference in Hong Kong’s state of affairs is corresponding to inviting a wolf in sheep’s clothing into the country.

Hong Kong is part of China and it is just a matter of time before the principle of ‘One Country, two systems’ is eroded. There is already a lot freedom of speech in the city as guaranteed by the Basic Law if you compare with other more oppressive regimes around the world. If you burn Hell Bank notes printed with faces of government officials, you will be arrested in some South East Asian democratic countries. Many of these students have not lived elsewhere and they do not understand that there is no TRUE DEMOCRACY in any government. As much as we do not agree with the extradition amendments, we believe that the original struggle to true democracy has been steered off-course as evident by the current civil unrest.

According to an article in HKFP written by Jimmy Lai’s aide, Mark Simon, ‘If Hong Kong is losing, someone is winning’. Yes, Singapore and Japan will see some benefit, maybe even London will benefit from the effects of the extradition law. But Hong Kong and New York are the top tier and it is more rational to switch to among equals rather than drop down a tier. Again, you can win because someone else loses. The Communist Party is destroying Hong Kong’s one real advantage, the rule of law – New York City says thanks.

Sanctions, massive destruction to derail the economy in Hong Kong will only serve one purpose : MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

Jimmy Lai’s aide, Mark Simon
Thank you, Hong Kongers.
