Tesla Cybercab begins Asian tour in Hong Kong

8th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Tesla’s two-seat Cybercab — a fully autonomous, driverless taxi concept with no steering wheel — has landed in Hong Kong as the first stop on an Asian tour, giving locals an early look at a future where passengers pick a destination and ride while working or watching films.

The futuristic vehicle first appeared in Austin, Texas, on 3rd September. More than 40 dual-seat Cybercabs are already in service there, summoned through Tesla’s Robotaxi app within designated zones so computers handle the driving and turn commuting into private downtime. Hong Kong’s static roadshow is meant to preview that vision rather than launch local unmanned taxi operations overnight.

Because the cabin is built around passengers rather than a driver, Cybercab puts experience first. A 22-inch touchscreen sits at the centre, loaded with theatre, music and games apps so riders can work or unwind. The exterior’s wing-like bodywork and front-drive packaging leave a notably wide luggage bay — details Tesla is highlighting as part of a clean-sheet robotaxi design, not a stripped Model 3.

On safety, the maker says Cybercab’s engineering inherits the top standards of Model 3, Model Y and Model YL. Those production cars have already earned top ratings from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Europe’s Euro NCAP, Australia and New Zealand’s ANCAP, and China’s C-IASI.

Software is pitched as the other half of the experience. The Tesla smartphone app acts as a phone key to lock and unlock doors, lets users set cabin temperature before departure, check battery status, find nearby Superchargers and book servicing. Personalised driver profiles can auto-adjust seats, wheel and mirrors when someone enters another supported car — a feature more relevant to today’s Model line than a wheel-less cab, but part of the brand pitch in Hong Kong. Tesla says it already runs more than 500 Superchargers and 1,100 Destination Chargers across Hong Kong and Macau, with more than 40 service centres in the Greater Bay Area for maintenance, repairs and roadside help.

Public displays begin on 9th September. Elements in West Kowloon hosts the first leg from 9th to 15th September, Pacific Place in Admiralty from 17th to 20th September, and the Tesla AIRSIDE experience centre at Kai Tak from 22nd to 27th September. Free guided tours — about 15 minutes, up to 12 people per session, 10am to 9pm — are offered only at Elements and Pacific Place, with online booking open now. Completing a tour or test-driving a designated Model on site earns an Asia-tour commemorative gift. For Hong Kongers curious about a steering-free taxi, the next fortnight is the chance to stand beside one before the exhibit moves on.
