2nd September 2026 – (Tehran) Iranian officials said a strike hit a residential home hosting a wedding in Bandar Kuhestak, Sirik County, in the southern province of Hormozgan, leaving at least two people dead and around 20 injured on Tuesday night. Ahmad Nafisi, the deputy governor of Hormozgan, told state television the attack caused multiple casualties, with later tallies from Iranian outlets and the Red Crescent suggesting the number of wounded could exceed 50.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei Hamaneh, condemned the strike and warned on X that Iran would respond “with firmness,” criticising governments and international bodies he said were silent or sought to justify the action. Reports in Iranian media described blasts across several coastal locations, including Bandar Abbas, Minab, Jask, Chabahar, Konarak and Qeshm Island, while state TV said Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province was also targeted, with no reported casualties at the airport.
The US military’s Central Command said its operations on Tuesday were aimed at Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran, characterising them as a response to recent attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on American forces in the region. Casualty figures from the wedding site varied across Iranian sources, and could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
