8th November 2022 – (Hong Kong) TEDxTinHauWomen annual event, ‘In Bloom’ will feature 8 diverse speakers who will take the stage on Thursday, 1st December 2022 at Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon district from 1pm-7pm. Tickets will go on sale on 7th November 2022 at 10am.
Representing energy and perseverance, “In Bloom” personifies fundamental elements of self-worth, camaraderie, and receptiveness that strengthen everyone to grow and develop as individuals. And as we blossom, we also open our hearts to the world around us. These paths culminate, as we emerge in full bloom; strong and radiant.
Guests can expect a day which emphasises empowering, supporting and uplifting our community in Hong Kong. The highlight will be the 8 diverse speakers to share their unique stories and perspectives.
The 2022 TEDxTinHauWomen speakers and their talk titles include:
- Chinali Patel on“Pangolins, Pills and Payoffs – “The integrated World of Criminal Networks”
A diplomat, a wildlife enthusiast and a champion of diversity and inclusion, Chinali Patel leads the Illicit Finance Policy at the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong, working closely with regulators, financial institutions and the private sector. Chinali will implore us to “come together and work as a group to ensure that species don’t get relegated to the history books”.
- Claudia Chanhoi on “Are Genitals Really Offensive?”
An illustration artist based in Hong Kong, Claudia wields her art to spark discussions through her artwork on ‘no-no’ topics, especially around the objectification of women’s bodies which has become a process for her to reclaim her own sexuality. Claudia asks everyone to question why certain images are censored on social media and shares how her experience inspired her to be extra creative with her cheeky illustrations.
- Irene Cheng on “Fantastic Plastic: Designing Our Way Out of Waste ”
As an architect, installation artist, mother, and sustainability advocate Irene uses design to stimulate public engagement on plastic waste to enrich communities while taking action against the ever-increasing plastic waste in Hong Kong. Irene will open audiences’ eyes to the possibility that great sustainable designs will encourage the public to recycle better.
- Jen Flowers on “Skeletons in the Closet”
An avid supporter of design thinking and women empowerment, Jen is a sought after speaker on subjects like innovation, digital transformation, team culture, design thinking and women empowerment. From the laughs to the tears, Jen will bring everyone together to evaluate the good, the bad and the ugly of lying. But most importantly, why we do it.
- Taura Edgar on “Who Does Silence Help?”
Beside being a B2B digital marketer, Taura is also the founder of TALK Hong Kong. She will share how data, research and coordinated systems can help us identify and stop the harm to our children.The figures in TALK Hong Kong’s 2022 report represent a tragedy for children in Hong Kong and an opportunity for each of us – from guardians to educators, from employers to colleagues – to do something to end this public health crisis.
Trigger Warning (TW): this talk will discuss topics of sexual abuse that may be triggering for some audiences. During the live event on 1st December, the organiser will offer a TW for the audience to have the option to enjoy the fair during this particular talk.
- Zaf Chow on “Web3.0 Opening Doors to Equality”
Passionate about the opportunities that tech provides, Zaf, the Director of Digital Strategy and Partnerships at Animoca Brands, promotes mass adoption of NFTs, metaverses and facilitates transition to Web3. She believes there are no limitations when it comes to women thriving in any arena and is eager to share her knowledge and passion about the future of untapped possibilities.
- Anna Robb on “What to do in an Emergency!”
Anna has spent much of her life running highly technical and acrobatically ambitious theatrical shows for companies like Cirque du Soleil and Dragone Entertainment. She has dealt with hundreds of show stops and emergencies and has needed to make split-second decisions to keep cast and crew safe while entire audiences watch a situation unfold. In this TEDx talk, Anna will take her lessons from the stage and share how everyone can prepare for the possibility of an emergency and what to do once you find yourself in one.
And what’s more there is a fireside chat on “Aviate, Navigate, Communicate – In conversation with Christina Ho” – Aside from being a pilot for a leading airline aviation company in Hong Kong, Christina creates character #christtina_meow and works on a series called #LifeLessonsFromTheSky to promote positive thinking and aviation trivia on social media. This young trailblazer is also busy inspiring youth, especially women, to chase their dreams with passion and courage.
Ted’s annual event also provides the ideal environment for meaningful interactions, a platform to involve more of our community and an opportunity to rethink our environmental impact. With this in mind, it has taken a conscious decision of looking at its events through the lens of its key pillars – COMMUNITY, NETWORKING and SUSTAINABILITY.
TEDxTinHauWomen is also one of a few TEDx chapters in Hong Kong, and its event is one of many TEDx events happening around the globe as part of the TEDWomen event happening 24th – 28th October 2022.
