10th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) has announced that due to a technical failure in the Electronic Poll Register system, all polling stations in the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election have transitioned to using the printed-form final register for issuing ballot papers, effective from 8.12pm. The EAC has requested affected voters to remain patient during this temporary adjustment.
The unexpected glitch in the Electronic Poll Register system has necessitated the switch to the printed-form final register to ensure the smooth facilitation of the voting process. While the EAC has not provided detailed information regarding the nature of the technical failure, they have taken prompt action to mitigate any disruptions to the electoral proceedings.
As a result of this unforeseen development, the polling hours will be extended to accommodate the transition and ensure that every eligible voter is given the opportunity to cast their ballot.
