11th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Shortly after 12.00am, staff on Tsing Ma Bridge spotted a fleet taxi stationary in the slow lane towards the airport with the engine still running and no driver in sight. CCTV footage indicated the driver had stopped, got out, climbed over the barrier and leapt into the sea. Police, Fire Services and Marine Department vessels began an immediate search below the bridge, and a Government Flying Service helicopter joined the operation.
Officers later identified the driver as a 60‑year‑old man surnamed Lee after finding a bag inside the taxi containing suspected identification documents and a note. Following an overnight sea‑and‑air operation, search teams located the man at 10.36am in waters off northern Ma Wan, where he was certified dead at the scene.
