2nd September 2026 – (Hong Kong) A video circulating on Threads shows a heated confrontation between two men at the McDonald’s counter in Choi Ming Shopping Centre, Tseung Kwan O, during which a tattooed man in a white shirt unleashes a stream of expletives at a man in a blue top and appears to claim links to the Wo Shing Wo triad, referencing a supposed figure known as “Lefty”. The blue‑clad man responds sceptically and takes out his phone to call the police; the tattooed man immediately steps back but continues swearing until the clip ends. Witnesses said officers later arrived to deal with the incident.
The footage sparked heavy online debate, with commenters mocking the bravado and questioning why organised‑crime name‑dropping would arise over a fast‑food queue. McDonald’s had launched a HK$10‑for‑nine McNuggets promotion on 31st August, drawing long lines that some users suggested may have contributed to frayed tempers.
Police said they received a report at 8.14pm on 31st August about an argument between two men while queuing to buy food. Officers attended and, according to witnesses at the scene, no one identified himself as a triad member. The case was classified as a dispute with no criminal element.
Authorities reminded the public that falsely invoking or claiming membership of a triad society can constitute a criminal offence in Hong Kong under the Societies Ordinance, with penalties on first conviction of a fine up to HK$100,000 and imprisonment for three years, rising on subsequent convictions to a fine up to HK$250,000 and imprisonment for seven years.
