3rd August 2022 – (Taipei) Chines state-run media claimed that Su-35 fighter jets were crossing the Taiwan Strait minutes before U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s arrival in Taiwan. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) refuted the claim. The MND said, “Taiwan Strait rumours are not true.”

At 10.26pm yesterday, 20 minutes before Pelosi’s arrival in Taipei, China’s CGTN reported that China-operated Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets were crossing the Taiwan Strait.

Nevertheless, the U.S. Air Force Boeing C-40C flight no. SPAR19 carrying Pelosi and her delegation landed safely at Taipei Songshan Airport at around 10.43pm. Taiwan News reported that Pelosi’s jet had avoided any confrontation with Chinese warplanes by flying over Indonesia, the east of the Philippines, and the east of Taiwan before landing in Taipei.
