Suspect arrested in Jilin park knife attack that injured 4 American lecturers, all victims in stable condition

11th June 2024 – (Longtan) Four American lecturers participating in an exchange program with Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, were brutally attacked and wounded by a knife-wielding assailant at a park in Jilin. The incident occurred on Monday, and local authorities swiftly responded to the scene.

According to a report issued by the Chuanying Branch of Jilin Public Security Bureau on the 11th, the suspected perpetrator is a 55-year-old man named Cui, who hails from the local area. It is alleged that Cui collided with a foreigner while walking in the park, which led to a confrontation. In a horrifying turn of events, Cui resorted to violence, stabbing the foreigner and three others in the group. Additionally, a Chinese tourist who intervened to stop the attack also suffered injuries. The authorities promptly apprehended Cui on the same day.

The Chuanying Branch of Jilin Public Security Bureau released a statement detailing the incident. On the morning of 10th June, at 11.49am, an assault took place in Beishan Park, Chuanying District, Jilin City. Local police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and provided immediate medical assistance to the injured victims while apprehending the suspect without delay.

After a thorough investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, Cui (55 years old, from Longtan District, Jilin City), had collided with a foreigner while walking in Beishan Park, leading to the violent knife attack on the foreigner and three others in their group. A Chinese tourist who bravely intervened to prevent further harm was also injured. The four foreign victims are lecturers from Cornell College in Iowa, invited to teach at Beihua University.

Currently, all the injured victims are receiving appropriate medical care and are in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries reported. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further actions will be taken accordingly.
