22nd May 2025 – (Hong Kong) Bamboo scaffolding, an enduring symbol of construction support in Hong Kong, has recently gained recognition as a local art form within the architectural community, residents, and visitors. To celebrate this cultural heritage, this year’s SummerFest@Central Harbourfront presents its signature program – BAMBOOSCAPE, offering a glimpse into Hong Kong’s rich cultural tapestry and urban landscapes. Alongside this, a diverse array of approximately 25 special pop-up activities spanning culture, music, dance, and sports will animate the Central Harbourfront Event Space, promising an exhilarating summer season.
Central Venue Management (CVM), the exclusive operator of the Central Harbourfront Event Space, is set to launch the ninth season of SummerFest from 30th May to 3rd August, spanning 66 consecutive days at this central venue. All events are open to the public free of charge, catering to an anticipated audience of numerous visitors. Over the years, CVM has collaborated with various art and cultural organisations to curate engaging programs that promise fresh inspiration and immersive experiences for attendees.
The highlight of this year’s regular program – BAMBOOSCAPE, a joint effort by the Hong Kong Architecture Centre and CVM, will feature six large bamboo art installations meticulously crafted by architectural luminaries and innovative teams. Notable designers include Professor Yong Ho Chang from the University of Hong Kong, the team from Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ), Assistant Professor Philip Fung and Voraphope Prasertsap from Tunghai University, sustainable design architect Dr. Tony Ip, the team HOUR 25, Professor Hiroyuki Shinohara from CUHK Architecture, as well as fibre artists Cecilia Lai and Barnard Chan from Breakthrough Art Studio. Skilled local bamboo craftsmen have also been invited to showcase traditional bamboo scaffolding techniques, celebrating Hong Kong’s cultural heritage.
Weekends, public holidays, and select days will host a vibrant array of special pop-up programs encompassing sports, music, dance, and culture. Events range from the dynamic Hong Kong Children’s Balance Bike Group Championship and Dodgeball Competition to the Baseball5 & eBASEBALL For All Day activities, offering a mix of adrenaline-fuelled fun and community engagement.
Musical enthusiasts can look forward to a series of captivating performances including the CHAMpionTeng1 Hong Kong Youth Singing Competition, SingingShow, Next Star Singing Competition, Summer Vibes, My Rhythm Playground series, Neighbour Music Festival, and Let’s Play Hong Kong! series, providing a melodic escape amidst the bustling Central district. Dance enthusiasts can enjoy the Showcase Competition and Fiesta de Ballet, blending artistic flair and grace. Cultural offerings such as the WanderFest Festival series, The Tao of Enjoyce series, Mermazing Summer Splash series, and Sri Lankans Talent Show promise a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultural experiences for all visitors.
