Successful conclusion of 15th National Games Triathlon test event in Hong Kong

2nd March 2025 – (Hong Kong) The National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) (NGCO) announced today the successful completion of the 15th National Games (NG) Triathlon test event, held at the Central Harbourfront and Victoria Harbour on 1st and 2nd March.

Approximately 110 athletes from the Mainland, Macao, and Hong Kong participated in the two-day event, including 10 athletes from Hong Kong (six male and four female). The races commenced at the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade and concluded at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. The first day featured individual events for both men and women, with Ms Yang Yifan and Mr Zhang Xirui from the Shandong triathlon team emerging as winners. The inaugural mixed relay event in Hong Kong saw the Shandong team clinch the gold medal, while the Liaoning team secured silver and the Hong Kong team took home bronze.

Mr Yeung Tak-keung, Head of the NGCO, highlighted several key features of the race route. Notably, this was the first time the finish line was set at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. The course included two transition areas: one near the swimming section for the swim-to-cycling transition and another at the finish line for the cycling-to-run transition. Athletes navigated through iconic Hong Kong landmarks, including the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Central Government Offices, the Legislative Council Complex, and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. The cycling route stretched between Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai and the International Finance Centre in Central, providing participants with a picturesque view of Victoria Harbour and the bustling business district.

The event was organised by the NGCO under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, in collaboration with the Triathlon Association of Hong Kong China, with advisory support from the China Triathlon Sports Association. The test event encompassed various operational aspects, including race organisation, venue setup, information systems, security, medical services, accommodation, hospitality, food and beverage, transportation arrangements, and contingency plans.

Following the test event, Mr Yeung confirmed that the NGCO would conduct a thorough review of the event procedures and details in collaboration with relevant organisations and government departments to ensure optimal preparation for the official events scheduled for later this year.
