1st December 2023 – (Hong Kong) The glitz and glamour were in full swing as the highly anticipated third edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival kicked off with a star-studded opening night. A-list celebrities such as Johnny Depp and Will Smith graced the event with their presence, adding to the excitement and allure.
The festival commenced with the premiere of the film “HWJN,” adapted from the best-selling Saudi fantasy novel by Ibraheem Abbas. Set in a world where djinn coexist with humans, the film takes viewers on a captivating journey into a realm of imagination where endless possibilities await.
Johnny Depp, known for his exceptional talent and versatility, made a notable appearance at the festival. Wrapping up his filming for the independent movie “Modi” as a director, Depp radiated appreciation as he walked the red carpet dressed in an elegant all-black tuxedo. Additionally, his film “Jeanne du Barry” is scheduled for screening on Friday, following its debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Will Smith, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, also graced the event in a sophisticated dark black suit and dress shoes. As he arrived, fans eagerly approached him for selfies, and Smith graciously posed for as many as possible, adding to the excitement on the red carpet.
Sofía Vergara, although not walking the red carpet, took the stage during the festival’s opening ceremony. Coinciding with her appearance, Netflix unveiled a new trailer for her highly anticipated limited series, “Griselda.”
The festival attracted other notable guests, including Sharon Stone and Michelle Williams, who added to the star power. Baz Luhrmann, present at the event, expressed his honour upon being announced as the head of the competition jury.
