Standby Signal, No. 1 to remain in force till 6pm, Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 may be hoisted tonight


30th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) According to the present forecast track by Hong Kong Observatory, the tropical depression will remain at a distance of over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong during the day today. Local winds will not strengthen significantly. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force before 6pm today. As the tropical depression continues to edge closer to the coast of western Guangdong, local winds are expected to strengthen gradually tonight. The Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 then.

The outer rainbands associated with the tropical depression are already affecting the territory. There will be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, and not to engage in water sports.

Winds will strengthen gradually with swells over the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of southern China. Its associated outer rainbands will also bring squally showers and thunderstorms to the region. Under the influence of an active southerly airstream, the weather is expected to remain unsettled over the coast of Guangdong next week.

There will be squally showers and thunderstorms in the next couple of days. There will be strong winds on Friday. Showers will be heavy at times during the weekend.
