Spectators boo for 2 seconds during playing of national anthem before the friendly football match between HK and Myanmar teams


25th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Stadium reopened yesterday after 3 years of COVID-19 epidemic to allow spectators to watch the first friendly international football match between the Hong Kong national football team against the Myanmar football team. It was also the first friendly international football match after the implementation of the National Anthem Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law. The match kicked off at Hong Kong Stadium at 8 o’clock yesterday night. More than 12,000 spectators were present.

However, during the opening prelude, the national anthem was played and there were 2 seconds of booing heard among the spectators.

A number of police took video of the spectators and left.

The police replied that they will, as always, carry out their duties in accordance with the law. If illegal acts were found, the police will conduct investigations and take enforcement actions. No arrests have been made so far.
