28th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) On Sunday, 1st October, at 9pm, the skies over Victoria Harbour will be ablaze with a mesmerising fireworks display, marking the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This grand event is not only a celebration of National Day but also part of the Night Vibes Hong Kong campaign.
A total of 31,888 firing shells will be launched from three barges and six pontoons, creating an approximately 23-minute extravaganza of lights and colours. The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau is coordinating the event, which is jointly sponsored by HKT Limited and FWD Life Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited.
The theme of the fireworks display centers around prosperity for all businesses and a brighter future for the city. It will consist of eight captivating scenes, each designed to convey a unique message. The first scene, titled “Together on National Day with Jubilant Fireworks,” will showcase red hearts alongside peonies, symbolising well wishes for everyone. The second scene, “Hello Hong Kong, Happy Hong Kong,” will feature smiling faces and the iconic bauhinia. The sixth scene, “Rooted in China, Advancing as One,” will display red five-pointed stars in various color combinations. The grand finale, “Prospering Nation, Blessings for Hong Kong,” will dazzle spectators with fireworks resembling a crown and palm brocades, accompanied by alternating red and sparkling fireworks, signifying the prosperity of the nation and blessings for Hong Kong.
The fireworks spectacle can be enjoyed from numerous vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, the Mid-Levels, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and the Hung Hom Bypass.
To enhance the viewing experience, audiences are encouraged to tune into Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4 (FM 97.6 to 98.9) for synchronised music that will accompany the fireworks display.
