SPCA Hong Kong Centre hosts “Dog Adoption Date” event on 11th November

31st October 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong), also known as the SPCA, is pleased to announce the upcoming “Dog Adoption Date” event on Saturday, 11th November, 2023. This event invites dog lovers to visit the SPCA Hong Kong Centre and meet the lovable mongrels longing for a forever home. It presents participants with the unique opportunity to engage in one-on-one interaction with the adoptable dogs and potentially find a lifelong companion on Singles’ Day.

While businesses often celebrate Singles’ Day by offering enticing shopping deals, the SPCA believes there are more meaningful ways to commemorate this special day. Their message of “Adopt, Don’t Shop” reinforces the importance of rescue and adoption. Each adoption not only brings joy and companionship into a person’s life but also saves the life of another animal in need, as their place at the adoption center becomes available for another rescue.

Hong Kong unfortunately witnesses instances of animal abandonment and mistreatment, making it essential for organizations like the SPCA to provide shelter and care for these unfortunate animals. However, post-pandemic, the adoption rate has remained low, resulting in all three dog kennels operated by the SPCA reaching full capacity. Currently, over a hundred animals under the care of the organization are awaiting their forever homes. In addition to the dogs already available for adoption and open to public visits, there are a significant number of dogs in foster care or other areas not accessible to visitors. These “unseen” dogs have a lower chance of being adopted due to their limited visibility to the public.

Through the Dog Adoption Date event, the SPCA aims to encourage participants to interact with these affectionate mongrels, learn about each rescue dog’s unique traits from SPCA staff, and potentially find their perfect companion. By transforming the symbol of loneliness associated with Singles’ Day into a festival filled with love and companionship, the SPCA hopes to make a positive impact on the lives of both dogs and humans alike.

The SPCA extends a warm invitation to all dog lovers to join the event and meet mongrels of different ages, backgrounds, and characteristics, in hopes of finding their ideal match.
