South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo shines in Repulse Bay with HK$20 million jewellery appearance

    28th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) Song Hye-kyo, the 41-year-old South Korean actress, returned to Hong Kong after a five-year hiatus. She attended a jewellery exhibition at The Repulse Bay as the brand ambassador for CHAUMET yesterday.

    Around 2pm, she gracefully appeared outside the restaurant of the hotel, dressed in a white outfit, accompanied by jewellery worth nearly HK$20 million. She warmly waved and smiled at the reporters, greeting them in Korean, saying, “Hello, everyone. I am Song Hye-kyo. It has been a while since I last visited Hong Kong. I am delighted to meet you all through this event. I am very happy to see everyone here in Hong Kong today. I hope you have a joyful time.” Afterwards, she returned to the hotel within a brief three-minute stay.

    On 5th July, 2017, Song Hye-kyo and her “Descendants of the Sun” co-star, Song Joong-ki, announced their engagement through their respective agencies. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony on 31st October, 2017, at Youngbingwan, Hotel Shilla in Seoul, attracting significant media attention across Asia. The wedding was attended by their closest family and friends, including actors Lee Kwang-soo, Yoo Ah-in, and Park Bo-gum, who also showcased his piano skills during the reception.

    However, on 27th June, 2019, Song Joong-ki filed for divorce from Song Hye-kyo, and the divorce was finalised in July 2019. Subsequently, on 25th July, 2019, Song Hye-kyo lodged a complaint against fifteen online netizens for spreading false information, defamation of character, and insults.

    In August 2014, Song Hye-kyo faced a legal issue when it was revealed that she had committed tax evasion by claiming undocumented expenses. She publicly apologized for the incident, stating that she was unaware of her accountant mishandling her paperwork. She paid the outstanding taxes, amounting to ₩3.8 billion (US$3.7 million), including penalties for understatement of income tax. In April 2014, she was further billed ₩700 million for her 2008 tax filing due to a five-year audit that had been neglected since the 2012 notification.
