24th May 2023 – (Seoul) On Wednesday (24th May), it was announced that Song Joong-ki, the star of Descendants of the Sun, will be the latest face of Louis Vuitton. The South Korean actor is set to make his debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for his latest movie, Hopeless.
Song is no stranger to the limelight, having recently starred in the revenge-themed K-drama, Reborn Rich. He made headlines earlier this year when he announced that he was married to Katy Louise Saunders and that they are expecting a child together. This was his second marriage, having previously been married to his co-star in Descendants of the Sun, Song Hye-kyo, in 2017. The couple divorced in 2019 after being married for one year and nine months.
K-pop celebrities have been increasingly in demand by fashion brands, with many snagging brand deals alongside international stars. In January of this year, Jackson Wang was appointed as a representative of Louis Vuitton. He most recently appeared in the brand’s Horizons Never End campaign, shot in Paris, where he ran through the streets with the maison’s iconic Horizon collection, first developed by Marc Newson. Earlier this month, he made waves at the Met Gala, wearing a custom Louis Vuitton outfit.
Other celebrities who have joined the Louis Vuitton family include Zendaya, Tahar Rahim,Liu Yifei, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Zendaya, who has also been named as the face of Valentino, wore a custom Louis Vuitton gown at this year’s Oscars. Tahar Rahim, the French actor, wore a Louis Vuitton suit to this year’s BAFTA Awards. Liu Yifei, the Chinese-American actress, has been representing the brand since 2020 and was featured in the brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 campaign. Chloe Grace Moretz, the American actress, has been a Louis Vuitton ambassador since 2018 and has been seen wearing custom LV outfits on the red carpet.
