Snow avalanche hits Mount Kazafuki in Japan, trapping approximately 10 people

2nd March 2024 – (Tokyo) This morning, a snow avalanche struck Mount Kazafuki  in the northern Japanese Alps, resulting in the entrapment of around 10 individuals, according to SBC Shinetsu Broadcasting. The avalanche occurred at approximately 11.30am in the vicinity of the small village of Otani.

A distressed male survivor reported that “approximately 10 people are trapped in the avalanche.” Local authorities have confirmed the situation and are mobilizing helicopter search and rescue operations in response.

SBC Shinetsu Broadcasting mentioned that officials are currently assessing the scale of the avalanche and determining its precise location.
