17th March 2023 – (Singapore) Singapore’s Changi Airport has clinched the title of World’s Best Airport for the twelfth time, according to the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards. The international air transport rating organisation’s annual rankings saw Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport secure second and third place, respectively. Notably, the top 10 airports did not include any from the United States.
While Changi Airport celebrated its latest victory, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) experienced a significant fall in its ranking, dropping from 20th place last year to a disappointing 33rd place this year. This marked the fifth time since 2018 that HKIA had witnessed a ranking drop. The airport’s last win as the world’s best airport was back in 2011.
Europe’s top performer was Paris Charles de Gaulle, climbing one spot to claim fifth place, while Seattle-Tacoma International Airport emerged as the highest-ranked North American airport, securing an impressive 18th place – a remarkable improvement from last year’s 27th position.
On the other hand, New York’s JFK slipped three spots to a dismal 88th place, whereas China’s Shenzhen made a remarkable rise of 26 spots to rank 31st, two places ahead of Hong Kong. Melbourne was the highest-ranking Australian airport, placing 19th – a notable improvement from its 26th place last year. Meanwhile, London Heathrow plummeted nine places, ending up in 22nd place.
Changi Airport’s CEO, Lee Seow Hiang, expressed his deep honour and gratitude at receiving the accolade, citing it as a testament to the tireless efforts of the airport community in overcoming the unprecedented challenges of the past two years caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on a customer satisfaction survey, making Changi Airport’s victory a resounding testament to its exceptional service and commitment to delivering an unrivalled travel experience.
