19th August 2025 – (Hong Kong) A shuttle bus operated by Hang Po Transportation Co. Ltd has gone viral on social media after pictures revealed its windows covered with Chiikawa soft toys. The unusual display left many shocked, with online commenters speculating that the driver might have an obsession with the toys. Many have voiced concerns about the potential safety risks posed by such an act. “It’s baffling how an adult would risk traffic laws and endanger passenger safety with this childish display,” said one commenter.
In Hong Kong, while there is no specific law explicitly banning the attachment of soft toys to vehicle windows, such acts could still breach traffic regulations under the Road Traffic Ordinance. The law mandates that drivers maintain a clear and unobstructed view of the road, traffic, and surroundings.
Soft toys attached to the side windows could significantly hinder the driver’s visibility, particularly when they are large in size or excessive in number. This could lead to dangerous driving conditions.
The toys also pose a potential safety risk in the event of an accident. They could become projectiles, causing injuries to passengers or other road users. Furthermore, toys meant for children are subject to strict safety standards, raising questions about whether these items meet regulatory requirements.
Although the law does not directly address the use of soft toys on vehicle windows, traffic police can issue fines for any modifications that obstruct the driver’s view or compromise safety. Excessive use of decorations, like stuffed toys, could fall under this category, leading to penalties.
