8th June 2023 – (Hong Kong) A Shenzhen teenager recently uploaded a video on the Chinese social media platform, documenting her experience of spending a night on the streets of Hong Kong without paying for accommodation. In the video, the girl shared her adventure of experiencing the night-time ecology that Hong Kong residents are used to. The post has garnered over 10,000 likes and 1,800 bookmarks within just a few days and she has even announced plans to make a second video.

The video features the social media influencer who claims to be a Hong Kong movie fan from Shenzhen, sharing her love for Hong Kong and the fun things that mainland Chinese tourists can do in the city. Her latest video shows her successfully completing a challenge to spend the night in Hong Kong without paying for accommodation. She shares how she spent the night from midnight to 6am on the streets of Hong Kong, visiting different places like Mong KokCauseway Bay, and Kennedy Town. Although the trip was a success, she ended up spending HK$416 on food, transportation, and other expenses throughout the night.

Despite not being able to stay for free overnight, she was surprised by three things she experienced during her night out. Firstly, she was astonished by the fact that Hong Kong people seem to never sleep, with people still out and about even at midnight in places like Mong Kok and Causeway Bay. Secondly, she was shocked that public transportation, such as buses and minibuses, was still operating at almost 3am. Thirdly, she was impressed by the early opening hours of many shops and restaurants, with dim sum restaurants and tramways already operating in the early hours of the morning.

The video has garnered mixed reactions, with some praising her adventurous spirit, while others criticised her for promoting such behaviour, highlighting the dangers of sleeping on the streets and the potential harm that could come from encouraging others to do the same.
