4th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Ceiling leaks and standing water were reported inside MTR North Point Station yesterday, with passengers noting a strong odour across the concourse. MTR later confirmed that several exits at the station, specifically B1, B2, B3 and B4, were temporarily closed due to a drainage incident outside the premises.
According to the Drainage Services Department, it was notified by MTR at about 2.00am on 3rd September of a blockage in a public foul sewer near the station and deployed a high‑pressure jet to clear the line. Around 2.00pm, after suspected sewage seepage was observed within the station, crews were sent to pump down flows in external sewers as an emergency measure. Closed‑circuit television inspection later identified severe damage to a private sewer in a rear lane by the station, unrelated to any ongoing works. Following coordination with the property manager, emergency repairs were carried out and completed at around 5.00am today. The department said it will liaise with the Buildings Department and the relevant management office on restoration of the private drainage system.
By yesterday afternoon, on‑site barriers were in place and staff were clearing pooled water, while the smell persisted in parts of the concourse and nearby streets. Further follow‑up works are planned to prevent recurrence and address any residual impacts from the incident.
