22nd March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong National Security Department reportedly arrested several former members of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) this morning (22nd) to assist in the investigation, including former vice-chairman Leo Tang Kin-wah.

The HKCTU, which has been dissolved, was previously asked by the police to provide information on its organisational operations, income sources and expenses, as well as contact with affiliated organisations and overseas organisations. However, the group failed to comply with the request within the stipulated time frame. Three key members of the organisation, including Leo Tang Kin-wah, were charged with violating the “failure to comply with the notice to submit information” offence under the “Society Ordinance” in November last year and were fined HK$8,000 by the Eastern Magistrates’ Court. The case is still under investigation.
