24th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has announced that it will be presenting a special and unique concert for the first Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival. The concert, titled “SENZA x Lucky 6: Pop Grooves,” will take place on April 29 at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall.
SENZA, a sought-after local vocal group, and emerging brass band Lucky 6 will collaborate to reinterpret a number of iconic Hong Kong movie music and Cantopop songs in a cappella and brass ensemble versions. The crossover collaboration promises to bring audiences a refreshing and unforgettable performance.
The concert will feature new versions of selected Hong Kong movie songs from the 1980s in a variety of formats, including covers, remixes, mash-ups and medleys. These renditions aim to evoke nostalgic memories through popular melodies. SENZA and Lucky 6 will also perform hit songs of local pop singers and bands, as well as their original compositions. Their inspiring pieces and exquisite musical skills are expected to inject vibrancy into the concert.
SENZA, which was formed in 2018, has already made a name for itself in the local music scene. The group’s five members explore a seemingly infinite range of human voices and promote a cappella music into the local mainstream. In 2021, their first album, “Circle of Fifths,” was nominated in the 15th Freshmusic Awards as “EP (extended play) of the Year” and “Best Group.”
Lucky 6 is composed of six local professional musicians who play trumpet, trombone, tuba, saxophones and drums. Although they mainly play pop and funky music, they are known for extending their spectrum to diverse musical styles in collaborations with singers and other musical instrument soloists. They are frequently invited to perform their own originals as well as rearranged pieces on different occasions.
The first Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival organised by the LCSD aims to offer an array of programmes, from pop concerts and performances to thematic exhibitions, film screenings, outdoor and outreach activities. It aims to showcase Hong Kong’s unique cultural creativity and vibrancy.
The “Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2023 – SENZA x Lucky 6: Pop Grooves” concert will be staged at 8pm on 29th April (Saturday) at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall.
