Senior Chinese official conducts inspection visit to Hong Kong, emphasising cultural development and economic strategies

27th February 2024 – (Hong Kong) Xia Baolong, the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, continued his inspection visit to Hong Kong today, focusing on various aspects of the city’s development.

In the morning, accompanied by Chief Executive John Lee, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung, and Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Henry Tang, Mr. Xia visited the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of cultural and arts development and the promotion of Chinese culture in Hong Kong.

Later in the day, Mr. Xia engaged in a session at the Hong Kong Palace Museum with around 40 young people from Hong Kong. The attendees included representatives from various youth groups, participants in youth internship and exchange programs on the Mainland, and members of the Strive and Rise Programme operated by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Youth Ambassadors of the Youth Development Commission and representatives of the Youth Link, initiated by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, were also present.

In the afternoon, accompanied by Mr. Lee, Mr. Xia met with a group of economists to exchange views on Hong Kong’s economic development strategies. This session provided an opportunity to discuss and gain insights into the city’s economic outlook and potential areas for growth.
