Seicomart convenience store employee fatally stabbed, two others injured in Sapporo attack

25th February 2024 – (Sapporo) On Sunday morning, a convenience store employee lost his life and two other co-workers sustained injuries when a man attacked them with a kitchen knife, according to local media reports.

At approximately 6.50am local time, a man armed with what appeared to be a kitchen knife entered a Seicomart store located in Sapporo’s Kita Ward and began assaulting individuals present, as reported by Kyodo News.

The three store employees, all victims of the attack, were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their stab wounds. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehended the assailant at the scene, bringing the terrifying ordeal to an end.

Tragically, the employee in his 40s succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The two other victims, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, continue to receive medical care, the report revealed.

The suspect, identified as Hirotaka Miyanishi, a 43-year-old unemployed man residing in the same ward, has been taken into custody by the police. According to the report, Miyanishi has confessed to carrying out the stabbings, leaving no doubt about his involvement in the shocking incident.
