27th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s Secretary for Justice, Mr. Paul Lam, SC, is set to embark on a five-day visit to Beijing starting on May 28. During the visit, Mr. Lam will meet with officials from various ministries and authorities, including the Legislative Affairs Commission, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law Committee, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the National Supervisory Commission, the Ministry of Justice, the National Development and Reform Commission, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong on legal and dispute resolution services. Mr. Lam will leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages of enjoying strong support from the motherland and being closely connected to the world under the principle of “one country, two systems.” He hopes to contribute to the promotion of the country’s and the city’s rule of law development.
Mr. Lam will be accompanied by relevant Law Officers and government counsel on the visit. He is expected to return to Hong Kong on 2nd June. During his absence, the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr. Cheung Kwok-kwan, will serve as Acting Secretary for Justice.
