8th June 2023 – (Hong Kong) It was announced today that the Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau, would lead a delegation to Shanghai for a three-day visit starting tomorrow The purpose of the visit is to participate in the China Organ Donation Day event organized by the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation. The delegation will also visit the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission to continue strengthening the exchanges and cooperation in the healthcare area between Hong Kong and Shanghai.
During the visit, Professor Lo and the delegation will visit Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University and Renji Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to gain insight into the operation of medical specialty centers and the establishment of smart hospitals. They will also visit a community health service center and meet with Hong Kong people living in Shanghai.
The delegation consists of the Director of Cluster Services of the Hospital Authority (HA), Dr. Simon Tang, and representatives of the Health Bureau, the Department of Health, and the HA. The purpose of the visit is to build stronger relationships between Hong Kong and Shanghai in the field of healthcare, particularly in the area of organ donation.
Professor Lo will return to Hong Kong on 11th June. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Libby Lee, will be the Acting Secretary for Health.
China Organ Donation Day is an annual event held on the second Saturday in November to promote organ donation awareness and encourage more people to become organ donors. The event was first held in 2015 and has since grown in popularity, with more and more people participating each year.
