22nd October 2023 – (Bangkok) Mr Kevin Yeung, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, continued his visit to Thailand today, immersing himself in the vibrant art and cultural scene of the country. The purpose of his visit was to deepen bilateral cultural exchanges and strengthen ties between Hong Kong and Thailand.
In the morning, Mr Yeung had the opportunity to visit the captivating “Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival” exhibition in Bangkok. The exhibition, organised by the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), showcased Hong Kong’s rich heritage through exhibits, photographs, short videos, and interactive games. It aimed to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage items.
Eager to learn more about the artistic landscape of Thailand, Mr Yeung then paid a visit to the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. The centre provided him with insights into the artistic and cultural development in Thailand, allowing him to witness firsthand the diverse and unique artworks created by talented artists representing various styles and perspectives. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to explore the “Immersive Hong Kong” roving exhibition, organised by the Information Services Department, which showcased the captivating essence of Hong Kong through immersive experiences.
In the afternoon, Mr Yeung graced the opening ceremony of the “Next Generation: Emerging Directors Exhibition & Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation.” The event, organised by Create Hong Kong and funded by the Hong Kong Film Development Fund (FDF), featured the screening of seven Hong Kong films, including works by promising directors such as “A Guilty Conscience” and “A Light Never Goes Out.” The exhibition also highlighted promotional materials and film sets of the movies supported by the FDF. This initiative aimed to showcase the talent and creativity of emerging directors in Hong Kong’s film industry.
Continuing his exploration of the dynamic arts scene, Mr Yeung attended the opening ceremony of the “JUXTAPOSED 2023 Hong Kong Fashion in Bangkok” event. Organised by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association and sponsored by Create Hong Kong, this fashion presentation aimed to showcase the cutting-edge fashion designs emerging from Hong Kong. The event provided a platform for Hong Kong designers to showcase their innovative creations and foster cultural exchanges in the fashion industry.
Yesterday, on 21st October, Mr Yeung also participated in the Hong Kong Week 2023@Bangkok opening ceremony and opening programme, organized by the LCSD. The event, spanning from 21st October to 12th November, is an overseas cultural exchange extravaganza supported by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Ministry of Culture, Kingdom of Thailand. Its objective is to promote cultural exchange by bringing a taste of Hong Kong’s vibrant arts and culture to Bangkok.
During his visit, Mr Yeung took the opportunity to visit the Thai Film Archive, which presented the special exhibition “Movies to GO – Border Crossings in Hong Kong Cinema – Thailand” as part of the Hong Kong Week 2023@Bangkok. The exhibition highlighted the collaboration between Hong Kong and Thailand in co-productions, showcasing three Hong Kong film classics from the 1980s and 1990s that had inspired Thai film directors, namely “Police Story,” “An Autumn’s Tale,” and “Once a Thief.”
Mr Yeung’s visit to Thailand will conclude tomorrow morning, 23rd October, as he returns to Hong Kong. His visit has successfully fostered cultural exchanges, strengthened ties, and promoted mutual understanding between Hong Kong and Thailand in the vibrant realms of arts and culture.
