Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development leads business delegation to promote Hong Kong’s role in the Greater Bay Area

3rd December 2023 – (Hong Kong) Tomorrow, Mr. Algernon Yau, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, will lead a business delegation comprising enterprises from Belt and Road countries operating in Hong Kong on a two-day visit to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The aim of the visit is to promote Hong Kong as a service hub and assist enterprises in exploring opportunities in the Mainland market.

This visit marks the first business networking event organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government specifically for enterprises from Belt and Road countries in Hong Kong. The delegation consists of 20 representatives from these enterprises, accompanied by Mr. Nicholas Ho, the Commissioner for Belt and Road, as well as representatives from various government offices including the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and Invest Hong Kong.

Under the themes of “green development” and “innovation and technology,” the delegation will visit prominent enterprises and organizations in Shenzhen and Guangzhou to gain insights into the latest developments in these high-quality industries. They will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions and exchange views with senior government officials from the local authorities.

Mr. Yau is scheduled to return to Hong Kong in the afternoon on December 5. During his absence, Dr. Bernard Chan, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, will assume the role of Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
