26th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 13-year-old girl has allegedly been sexually assaulted by a male classmate multiple times inside a school in Tin Shui Wai. The latest incident took place in August last year when the male student reportedly grabbed the victim from behind and attempted to drag her into a restroom. The girl resisted and ran away, later reporting the incident to her parents who then filed a police report. The victim has since been unable to return to school, resorting to online classes instead.
The police responded to the report immediately, arresting the 13-year-old male student the same day. The case has been classified as sexual assault and is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Team 9 of the Yuen Long Police District. The suspect has been released on bail and is expected to report to the authorities in early April.
The police have been in constant communication with the victim’s parents and have kept them updated on the progress of the investigation. They have also provided information on the legal procedures involved. On 14th February this year, the police met with the victim’s family at the Tin Shui Wai Police Station to discuss the case’s progress. The police have sought legal advice from the Department of Justice regarding the case.
The Education Bureau has stated that they have been closely monitoring the situation since receiving the school’s report. They have formed a crisis management team to provide psychological and social support to the students affected by the incident. The bureau has also assured the public that they will provide advice and assistance to the school as required. However, as the case is still under investigation, the bureau has refrained from making any further comments on the matter.
