Salmonella found in sample roast pork rice sold at a restaurant in Wanchai


4th April 2019 – (Hong Kong) Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today that they found salmonella in a sample roast pork rice sold at a local eatery located at 194, Johnston Road, Wanchai. Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract.Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water or food. Typically, people with salmonella infection have no symptoms. Others develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps within eight to 72 hours.

The Department has already told the management to stop selling the item. Instruction has been given to the restaurant to improve on food hygiene and to disinfect the kitchen with immediate effect.
