22nd March 2023 – (Moscow) In a recent statement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has called on the United States to avoid escalating tensions in the ongoing Ukrainian conflict. Ryabkov’s comments came after the US Congress called for the supply of cluster munitions to Kiev.
Ryabkov criticised the US for its direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, citing its supply of increasingly lethal weapons to Kiev. He warned that the US’s actions could have severe consequences for the security of NATO and the chances of normalising relations with Washington.
“They consider supplying the Kiev regime with even more lethal, longer-range, modern sophisticated systems. Thus, the United States once again shows itself as a party directly involved in the conflict,” the diplomat said.
Ryabkov also expressed concern over the US Congress’s lack of understanding of the potential consequences of supplying cluster munitions to Ukraine. He stated that such actions could have severe repercussions for the security of the US-led NATO alliance.
“The US Congress didn’t even realize what consequences such an initiative could lead to for the security of the US-led NATO and for any chances of potentially normalizing relations with Washington,” he said.
The Politico newspaper recently reported that four high-ranking Republicans in the US Senate and the House of Representatives sent a letter to US President Joe Biden urging him to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions. The move was met with widespread criticism from Russia and other nations concerned about the escalating tensions in the region.
In light of the recent developments, Russia has called for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The country has urged the United States to reconsider its actions and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
